We are proud to announce the exceptional achievements of Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri students at the World Scholar’s Cup - Bangkok Global Round, held from 29th August to 5th September 2024. Competing against some of the brightest young minds from around the world, our students brought home an astounding 74 medals, showcasing their brilliance across debate, writing, and collaborative challenges.
Highlights of Junior & Senior Scholars’ Achievements
Among the highlights of this year’s event was Freya Corelie Limanardja, a Grade 8 student who was selected as a panellist for the prestigious Debate Showcase. Her exceptional debating skills stood out to the adjudicators, earning her a spot to represent junior scholars on a global stage. This recognition underscores Freya’s mastery of argumentation and public speaking, making her one of the standout talents in this year’s competition.
Another junior scholar, Ariendra Maghael Setyaki (Grade 8), distinguished himself as one of the Top 20 Individual Debaters, placing him among the best of the best in an arena filled with talented students from across the globe.
Additionally, one of our junior teams was recognized as one of the top teams in the Indonesia region, adding to the growing list of accolades our students have garnered. Perhaps the most exciting news is that all of our junior teams have qualified for the Yale Tournament of Champions, scheduled from 14th-19th November 2024.

A Global Stage of Competition and Collaboration
The World Scholar’s Cup is more than just a competition; it’s an event that fosters global connections and intellectual collaboration. After successfully advancing from the regional round in May, our students travelled to Bangkok to compete at the Global Round, which was hosted at Denla British School and featured an incredible mix of academic challenges, debates, and cultural exchanges. The event kicked off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony at the Askra Theatre in the King Power Complex and concluded with a grand Closing Ceremony at Thammasat University.
Our students competed in various categories, including Debate, Collaborative Writing, Challenge, and Bowl, while also taking part in fun activities like the Scholar’s Scavenge at Siam Amazing Park, further enhancing their experience of cultural exchange and global friendships.
Looking Ahead to Yale Tournament of Champions
With every team qualifying for the Yale Tournament of Champions, which will take place from 14th-19th November 2024, the journey continues for our incredible scholars. This invitation is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and world-class talent, and we are confident they will continue to shine on the global stage.
Congratulations to all of our students and teachers for these outstanding achievements, and we look forward to witnessing even more success as they head to Yale!
